LOCKED

INSIDE

Emotion. Feeling. Sensation. An honest instinctive state of mind that derives from one’s circumstances, mood, or relationships with others. They overcome our everyday lives and are so impactful to who we are and how we feel, yet they are intangible. So untouchable that if they bring despair into one’s life, they become overwhelmed and misunderstood. So much so that they shove themselves deep inside where they can’t be felt. Until they are felt. But we don’t want to acknowledge them, and we call them fine.

It is intriguing to imagine what these feelings look like that bring so much gloom into anyone’s life. The emotions you try to drown, but they somehow keep boiling to the surface. The sudden flashes of actions you imagine lashing out but stay concealed as daydreams. The sensations that are too painful to experience you keep locked deep inside. Caged experiences are the most dangerous because they like to remind you that they’re still down there when you are least expecting it. They can rattle at the smallest of reminders most often found in the lyrics of a song.

It is important to remember that dreadful emotions are distributed to everyone. While they can be derived from different and unique places, none of us are alone with this dark tension or inner turmoil. It is okay to let out these tormentors that we so often keep locked inside us. There is no need to put on a front. They convince us that no one understands and because there are often no words to describe them, we are fine. But we’re not. Stop walking around like a robot acting like how you’re supposed to act. Close this door of unnerving uncertainty and open a conversation. Everything doesn’t have to always be alright.
